Back Up VirtualDJ Before Making Changes
Back up the VirtualDJ database, settings, skins and user files before updating software or moving to another computer.
A skin is only one part of a working VirtualDJ setup. Before a major update, computer move or folder clean-up, back up the user data that contains your database, settings, playlists, history, mappings and installed add-ons.
Use VirtualDJ backup tools
In the browser toolbar, VirtualDJ provides database maintenance options including backup. Create a database backup before making significant library changes. The database records analysis and organisation information, but it is not a copy of the music files themselves.
Copy the user folder
Close VirtualDJ, then copy its user Documents folder to another drive or trusted backup location. Include the database files and the folders you rely on, such as Skins, Mappers, Plugins, Playlists and History. If your VirtualDJ home folder has been moved, confirm its real location rather than assuming the default path.
Back up your music separately
Your music and video files may be stored elsewhere. Make sure those locations are also backed up, ideally on a different physical device. A database backup cannot restore media that no longer exists.
Label and test the backup
Name the backup with the date and the VirtualDJ version. Check that files can be opened from the backup location before relying on it. Keep at least one earlier copy so that a damaged or incomplete recent backup is not your only option.
After an update, verify that your library, mappings and preferred interface load correctly before removing any previous installation files.
